ICYMI: Largest ever South Asian-to-South Asian Canvass in North Carolina Mobilizes More than 100 Volunteers to Get Out the Vote

Morrisville, N.C. — On Sunday, September 29th, the largest South Asian-to-South Asian canvass in North Carolina’s history took place, with more than 100 enthusiastic volunteers hitting the streets to knock on doors and “Get Out the Desi Vote.” The event, organized by Indian American Impact Fund and co-hosted by They See Blue NC, featured prominent political leaders including U.S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi and NC Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton, alongside a host of local South Asian elected officials.

The canvass launch included a rally and calls to action before volunteers fanned out across Morrisville to knock on doors and reach thousands of South Asian voters. This unprecedented turnout of canvassers underscored the critical role of the state’s 53,000 registered South Asian voters, who could very well tip the scales in the upcoming presidential race.

As the North Carolina election hangs in the balance, this grassroots effort seeks to ensure that South Asian voters turn out in record numbers, with Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot counting on their support.

Featured Speakers Included:

  • U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi
  • NC Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton
  • NC State Senator Jay Chaudhuri
  • NC State Representative Maria Cervania
  • Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam
  • Morrisville Town Councilmember Satish Garimella
  • Morrisville Town Councilmember Steve Rao
