Indian American Impact Statement on Senate’s Passage of Trump’s Extreme Budget Bill Slashing Food and Health Benefits
Washington, D.C. — Indian American Impact decries the Senate’s passage of a $4 trillion bill that slashes food and healthcare assistance for millions of working families while delivering massive tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and adding trillions to the deficit. If enacted, the legislation would represent the largest rollback of the American social safety net in decades, and the largest upward transfer of wealth in modern U.S. history.
Chintan Patel, Executive Director of Indian American Impact, issued the following statement:
“Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill is a cruel attack on the most vulnerable that trades meals and medicine for ultra-wealthy tax breaks.
It guts Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, stripping healthcare from nearly 17 million people. It slashes food assistance by nearly 20%, kicking over 2 million people off SNAP. That means children starving, seniors forgoing care, and working families drowning in medical debt while adding trillions to the deficit.
South Asian Americans will feel the pain. Many of us are caregivers, essential workers, and small business owners already navigating high costs and limited access to care. This bill would push countless families over the edge.
We urge every member of our community to call your Representative and demand they vote No. Our families and our values are not up for sale.”
Indian American Impact remains committed to protecting immigrant families, defending the safety net, and fighting for an America that works for everyone.
