IMPACT, the nation’s leading South Asian advocacy and political action committee, has endorsed Aftab Pureval in his bid for Mayor of Cincinnati.
The son of Indian and Tibetan immigrants, Pureval is currently the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. As Clerk, he modernized the court system and expanded access to the courts, especially for marginalized communities.
“Aftab knows that our communities have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic”, said Neil Makhija, Executive Director of IMPACT. “As Clerk, Aftab has worked to make courts more accessible to underserved communities and I’m confident that, as Mayor, he will ensure Cincinnati, as a whole, works for all its residents.”
His top priorities as Mayor include rebuilding an economy hit hard by the COVID crisis, affordable housing, and reforming Cincinatti’s police and public safety. If successful, Aftab will be the first mayor of South Asian descent in Ohio.
