Nearly 400,000 Asian Americans live in Ohio, with Indian Americans being the largest ethnic group. Asian population has been growing rapidly, as there has been around 58% growth since 2010. Many Asian Americans have build communities in the Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati area.
Niraj Antani was elected to the Ohio House of Representative in 2014, becoming the first Indian to serve in the Ohio legislature. At 23 years old, he was also the youngest person ever to be elected to the state house. He later went on the be the first Indian American elected to the state senate in 2020. In 2021, Aftab Pureval won his election for Cincinnati mayor. With this victory, Pureval, who was previously elected to Hamilton County Clerk of Courts in 2016, became the first Indian American elected to mayor of a midwest city.
