19 Indian American Impact Fund Endorsed Candidates Win Elections Across the Country
Washington, DC — Indian American Impact Fund is proud to announce that 19 of its endorsed candidates across the country won elections this past Tuesday, led by the first-ever South Asian woman elected to statewide office in Virginia, Lt. Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi, and the first-ever South Asian elected as Mayor of New York City, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. Other notable wins include the re-election of Mayor Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati and the election of Joe Khan as district attorney of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Additionally, there are 4 candidates advancing to runoff elections and 5 elections that are still too close to call. After the election on Tuesday, there are now 50 South Asian state legislators nationwide, as well as over 350 total South Asian elected officials.
Chintan Patel, Executive Director of the Indian American Impact Fund, shared the following statement:
“The results of the election this past Tuesday proved that whether it’s city council, mayor, or statewide office, South Asian Americans are part of the political future of this country. We want to congratulate all of our endorsed candidates who won elections, as well as all the candidates who had the courage to step up, represent their values and communities, and run for office this year. We can only ensure positive change happens by building community and being at the table where decisions are made. These results create momentum and set a powerful foundation for South Asian candidates running in 2026 and beyond.”
