Indian American Impact’s Statement on President Trump’s Day 1 Executive Orders Demonizing Immigrants
Washington, D.C. — Chintan Patel, Executive Director of Indian American Impact, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s planned Day 1 executive actions targeting immigrants:
“On his very first day in office, President Trump has issued a series of executive actions that target and demonize immigrants—a cruel and calculated assault on some of our nation’s most essential and diverse communities. From threatening to end birthright citizenship to opening pathways for mass deportations to proceed, these unconstitutional actions strike at the heart of our nation’s principles.
While Trump may think that our government is up for sale to the highest bidder, immigrants and our democratic values are not. The America we believe in does not scapegoat the vulnerable or trample fundamental rights for political gain.
As South Asian Americans, we know the indispensable contributions immigrants make to this country, and we will fight these unconstitutional and divisive measures with everything we have. Indian American Impact is committed to mobilizing our community, holding leaders accountable, and defending the ideals that make this nation a beacon of hope and opportunity for all.”
